New Project Grant Proposal round 13 DIAM

Grant Proposal New Project

Part 1 - Proposal Submission

Name of Project: DIAM

Proposal in one sentence:

A web-platform dedicated to building a decentralized marketplace for invisual art by leveraging Blockchain technology and by tokenizing data, thus allowing an open, collaborative, non-discriminating economic environment for all participants in the invisual art market.

Description of the project and what problem is it solving:

As we live our lives, each person produces what we call invisual art experiences. These could be one of the most valuable products but most of the time we literally throw away those moments and can’t capitalize on them. For example, imagine that you found the most comfortable way to enjoy your coffee. Imagine how great it would be if you were able to share your experience and, moreover, earn money through it. Here one can have questions: How should I sell it ? Who will buy it ? Invisual experience examples can be various and numerous, and probably you’ve no idea how many valuable experiences you have generated in your life. This is one of the goals of the current project - enable anyone to become an artist through the monetization of their creativity in their profession or in their life. DIAM’s idea is to free creativity on a global scale and to free the hidden potential of human beings. To promote the chances of these goals, we tend not only to create a marketplace, but also a real decentralized community that will be governed by the dynamic rules promoting its members’ prosperity (c.f. Invisual DAO).

Grant Deliverables:

  • [x] Grant Deliverable 1 : Basic frontend, backend and smart contract technical requirements listing

Which category best describes your project? Pick one.

  • [x] Build / improve applications or integrations to Ocean

A use case of Ocean Decentralised Marketplaces for a global target group

What is the final product?

  • DIAM (Decentralized Invisual Art Market) is the web application that enables the creation of the invisual decentralised art market.
  • DIAM’s intention is to kickstart a value chain and monetization for a new form of creativity called invisual art.
  • DIAM’s idea is to free creativity on a global scale.
  • DIAM’s dream is to augment human beings through art.
  • Enable anyone to become an artist through the monetization of their creativity in their profession or in their life.
  • Mix the latest technologies with the latest art in order to create the next generation of the art market.
  • To be a tool to encourage inventiveness in art.

DIAM should become the reference marketplace for invisual art experiences. It may be that DIAM will operate on Ocean Marketplace technology applying the Compute-to-Data* approach by Ocean Protocol. DIAM distills all conceivable expressions of invisual art as datatokens. In other words, DIAM allows the existence of INVISUAL expressions as tradable assets on the ocean marketplace.

The web-application will be open for everybody who intends to sell / buy / share / participate in the invisual art scene. By design, the participant interactions will be regulated by algorithmic governance
Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO). Such a DAO will define all collective actions in its governance model, s.a. membership, experience sharing, profit distribution, etc… As an example, it is planned to implement an automated revenue share model to reward all active participants involved in generation of transactions.

Part 3 - Proposal Details (*Recommended)

3.1 Details

Details of the proposal:

The web-application core, the data token, represents any kind of digital data (structured but not only) that can be purchased, traded and redeemed. The invisual art experience can be itself expressed as a certain type of data. Afterall, all our sensory experiences are somehow at their core merely data, so the datatoken can be derived from data signals registered by any kind of sensors. For example:

  • One artist can decide to sell only the structured registered digital traces of experience. The artist could stream data derived from the capture of any number of biomarkers (breathing, movement, the measurement of specific activities)

The data could also, however, represent an executable booking for a specific experience in the offline world. For example :

  • One person can booking the experience of participating in one activity (or event) in a offline world shared with him in person by the seller and have the “ownership” proof;

Datatokens might also be redeemed for groundbreaking hybrid digital analog experiences unlocked by purchasing the data tokens and redeeming them in exchange for access to the underlying data.

We expect to use the Compute-to-Data marketplace infrastructure based on Ocean Protocol. With this approach, the participant of DIAM could pay for the opportunity to run specific algorithms which privately manipulate a dataset uploaded by the artist/s without ever actually seeing the underlying invisual experience. This approach extends the concept of invisual art into the realm of provable invisuality - meaning an art experience can be generated while provably obscuring its source. Such art can include dynamically updated data streams and dynamically updating experiences.

One simple example:

  • The use of biodata as an invisual art experience medium; the data streamed by one artist could then be consumed after purchase of a compute-to-data (datatoken) as a derivative sensory of experience, or from these data after compute-to-data one other artist can derive a new experience and sell it.

DIAM functionalities are automated and community oriented. All active participants (generating validated transactions) rewarded from any transaction through DIAM DAO. The reward of community active artists in proportion to their efforts, the EXPERIENCE original author rewards, all metrics agreed upon by the artists.
Voting could also be implemented to trigger binding and automatic funds distributions based on the will of various art collectives contributing to the overall INVISUAL market and experience.

The prospect of collecting data directly associated with human experience would require some sort of brain-computer interface. Otherwise I’m not exactly sure what invisual artistic experiences could be quantified and sold as datasets. I believe this invisual art as it is called, could certainly be monetised through blockchain, but without direct collection of data through some form of neural interface I don’t see how this is a good fit for Ocean.

Thanks for the question ! you are right, today the true neuronal human-machine interface is accessible only to the research laboratories and we are far from unambiguous brain signals interpretations, it’s a huge modern research subject. But, this is not a far future, absolutely all brain signals, interring and sorting, could be registered, stored and processed as digital data, in principal. It’s a near future.

Today, we are talking about Invisual Arts, as we are explained it’s not about pictures, or sculptures but about different human experiences considered as an art material. By excellence, the simplest way to sell such art is the tokenization of structured digital data. The buyer of invisual art will pay for the opportunity to manipulate / to own a dataset uploaded by the artists. Is precisely why we selected Ocean marketplace related libraries as our framework. So … firstly, we will just increase the number of structured datasets available on the marketplace, it’s good for Ocean. Secondly, it’s would be great to see the artists community integrating the Ocen Protocol values. And … it’s not our primal intention, but after all, the presence of art can only increase the market value of Ocean

I think the concern is that we don’t want to be hosting another NFT marketplace. But I do understand what you mean about the manipulation of datasets as an implementation for what you describe. Can you provide any research that would inform us as to your intended methods or approaches? Also , what types of datasets would you be bringing to Ocean?

Dear SwarthyHatter. Thanks for your question, we understand your worries.

We are not talking about a new NFT marketplace, even if our project is art-oriented. In our opinion, NFT concept it’s already overpassed by the modern society needs. Actual NFT reflects the very standard view of ownership, just adopted to digital word. We don’t want to repeat the same errors.

The Invisual Art is not about selling or proof of ownership of GIF or JPEG files (the usual target of NFT if we simplify), because in Invisual practices usually where no art-object production. It’s about sharing of human Experiences in very large sense. Our project is community oriented and should be governed by the community using the web-platform. Of course, in the beginning, we intend to work with artists, but our final ambition is to generalize the use of web-platform to anyone, artists or not.

The general use case is the sample publishing of different datasets, for example:

  • the artists decides to share with us his impression of beautiful mountain view

    • instead of the landscape picture, the artist will publish the digital file which contains the registration of his cardiac rhythm, calories burned, even GPS traces registered by his smartphone, smart watch or any other devices during the climb.
    • The art protocol is to propose or share with someone else his experience of mountains climb.
  • one can pay the participation to this Invisual Experience. And the initial dataset will be augmented by the new income - the digital signals of cardiac rhythm, calories burned, etc. of the buyer (collectioner of Experience).

  • one can just buy the right to “own” the original data set as “art” investment.

  • or one can buy the possibility to apply proposed or hist own algorithm on the original dataset to produce the new independent dataset

It’s about a point of view,

  • for someone it’s an “art piece” ,
  • for many of us - it’s just a good dataset which could be used in the heart beating model development.

We will give the possibility to the artist sell the right to access/use of the dataset or to sell the participation to his experience. Note however, we presented one of many possible “user” case

You can find all instructions here: https://github.com/oceanprotocol/oceandao/wiki/Request-Grant-Guidelines
You will have until January 10th to update your proposal with all required fields.

Please let us know if you experience any issues or bugs. You can also submit tickets to Github and ping us inside of ocean-dao-engineering for any help. Thank you!

Hi @DIAM

Thank you for submitting your proposal for R13!

I have reviewed your proposal and would like to thank you for your participation inside of the Ocean Ecosystem!

Usage of Ocean — It may be that DIAM will operate on Ocean Marketplace technology applying the Compute-to-Data * approach by Ocean Protocol . DIAM distills all conceivable expressions of invisual art as datatokens. In other words, DIAM allows the existence of INVISUAL expressions as tradable assets on the ocean marketplace.

Viability — This is a stacked team, with a far out idea, that builds on top of OP core technology as their main stack. Their engineering team has decades of experience in areas such as blockchain, physics, data engineering, defi, governance. Their leadership team has helped execute organizations strategically for 25 years. The project is very ambitious, and pretty out there.

Community active-ness — This is a new team to OceanDAO but they have incredibly extensive industry experience and can help to bring a lot of exposure to OP and Ecosystem.

Adding value to the community — DIAM helps to bring OP to a broad audience via the invisual arts.

Based on the reasons above, I am in support of your project.

I look forward to continuing providing support and feedback to your project, and you can expect to receive a positive vote from me during the upcoming voting period.

All the best!

Unnoficial Evaluation

  • I believe DIAM deserves your attention.
  • I’m in full support of this project and humbled to assign myself as a guide.
  • This is a stacked team, with a far out idea, that builds on top of OP core technology as their main stack.
  • This is their first grant and tiny compared to their big idea.
  • They have my support & vote.

Summary

This project is composed by a stacked team with a lot of experience. They are building on top of OP core technology (C2D as stack core technology). I believe it addresses OceanDAO proposal criterias to contribute value to the Ecosystem.

As a guide, I’m humbled by the team roster, and pig picture idea.
I look forward to learning more about traction and roadmap.

Story

I’m just going to share my small story…

As I started reading the proposal I dismissed it as something so far fetched and absurd that I started making assumptions.

Because I assigned myself as a PGWG Evaluator however, I reflected on my values (as a Guide/Coach) and decided to dig deep.

Instead of dismissing “Ivisual Art Market”, I started asking: “Ok, what does this actually look like…”, what is their tech stack, let me reflect on the big idea… oh, wow, look at the team…

This project is composed of some really fantastic participants:

  1. They have extremely long-term contributors from the Biennale de Paris for over 20 years, and the art world.
  2. They have an extremely stacked engineering team representative of the CEO of Datarella, PhD blockchain & AO architects, Math and Physics wizards.

They plan to make heavy use of C2D in their tech stack and are leaning heavy into Ocean Protocol core tech.

I have not checked if they will receive this grant by default due to competition, but I believe they 100% deserve to receive this grant, and to help build on top of OP.

The concepts behind this project are far ahead of it’s time and the technological developments that come from building on top of C2D could be very interesting.

The practical product hacker in me is now hungry to learn more about their traction/viability/treasury, but based on the approaches they are taking (i.e. building out their own DAO), I believe DIAM is an extremely interesting venture and it would be great to help them trampoline.

Thank you for your proposal!

Final Words

As a PGWG Guide, this is a bad review. It’s not following our structure, and makes it hard for others to read when compared to our other reviews.

I decided to re-write this review as a way to show-by-example that we should practice our Kata, and not get lazy… it’s been a very long week.

I ask of you to always improve our Kata and keep quality high. If your quality drops, come back to practice tomorrow or ask for help.

Cheers!

Congratulations on winning a grant in R13 DIAM!

Looking forward to seeing all the great things the team are able to achieve!

As a guide, I am also trying to make sure to point out these overlaps so projects are able to leverage each other.

mPowered (another OceanDAO project) has been asking about which projects lean heavily into wearable technology. They have some patents around this technology and are looking for others inside OceanDAO who might be interested in chatting about this. Also LYNX, is helping to provide a backend for managing biometric data.
