Proposal Description
TL;DR:
- Build a v1 Terminal (analytics hub) for the Ocean community as a foundation to transparency and accountability.
- V1 of Terminal will gather on-chain and off-chain (if applicable) metrics to help contextualize meaning around Community, Treasury, and Governance.
V1 represents the beginning of a larger vision to help make information more accessible to Ocean Protocol community members and the core team to help act as alignment so everyone can make the best decisions on behalf of the DAO. We believe that to create autonomy, you need to lead with context, not control.
WHO WE ARE
Forefront is a tokenized community focused on uplifting other tokenized communities (a meta-community, if you will).
Specifically, we care to support tokenized communities who enable new ways of social coordination, collective action, for the purposes of building the new internet where things move towards decentralization.
To take the first step, we built Terminal.co, a dashboard for all tokenized communities. We would like to build a Terminal for Ocean Protocol.
V1 will build the foundation, but if the community is happy with it - we plan on moving towards V2. The next steps for us are to work alongside the community to collaborate on novel metrics (around Community health, Governance Participation, Transparency around funding and projects) that help ensure all members are informed to make the very best decisions on behalf of the DAO.
THE GAMEPLAN
Preface: Since we’ve launched Terminal, we’ve had a lot of interest from large communities like Nouns, Optimism, ENS, etc. on creating custom terminals. There’s a clear need for deeper metrics around Governance, Proposals, and general transparency around funding, and feedback mechanisms on work completed. It’s Forefront’s hope that we can this deliverable will be the V1 version that will enable us to start exploring deeper metrics that meet Ocean Protocol’s needs for V2.
As part of this deliverable, we will:
- Begin collaboration with the Ocean community/Core Team to learn about potential novel metrics in V2 (Begin R&D)
- In parallel, deliver the V1 version of an Ocean Protocol Terminal with the details below.
Grant Deliverable:
Build a Terminal for Ocean Protocol within Terminal.co. It will contain sections for Community, Treasury, & Governance and surface the following metrics:
To view more information, check out our Terminal deck here.
Community:
- Total members (based on token holdings)
- Active members (based on token holdings and voting history)
- Decentralization score (calculates ownership distribution via the Gini-coefficient)
- Note: Decentralization score has heavy implication on Governance effectiveness
- Social growth via Twitter
- Stretch goals: If the community desires, we can add information about discord activity and/or demographic information (if the DAO carries this info)
Treasury
- Treasury holdings and growth
- Runway (based on recent burn rates)
- Avg monthly expenditure by category
- Token price
- Volume
- etc.
Governance
- # of Proposals
- # of Proposal Creators
- Voter Participation Rates
- List of Proposals (acting as another avenue for users to discover proposals)

Value Add Criteria
One of the reasons why we're passionate about Tokenized Communities, such as Ocean Protocol, is because this represents a new social innovation where a community can fund the collective action of members to help push forward an idea/mission. However, we're very early in this journey as a whole and we believe that more needs to be done to create structures for alignment, coordination, and transparency. That's what Terminal represents.
Usage of Ocean:
Healthy governance is key to a community's health. Terminal offers transparent metrics, such as the Decentralization score (based off a measure used in economics - the Gini-coefficient) that calculates ownership distribution. Low Decentralization scores represent heavy inequality in ownership which can ultimately affect the quality of governance. We surface many similar metrics about community health (whether it's voter participation, or treasury avg expenses) that helps inform community members (or core teams) on how to make the best decisions for the DAO. Perhaps when a key metric is lower than desired, the community can apply focus in helping rectify that. All of this leads to greater usage of Ocean.
Viability:
We tested a version of Terminal on our own community and saw that it sparked a lot of quality conversation and action as a result. Our team has a track record of shipping so we're excited to deliver this for Ocean Protocol.
Community Engagement:
We worked with blockchainlugano and Andrea as advisors on this project. In this process, we learned about the values of Ocean Protocol. This resonates with me deeply as an individual, but also aligns tightly with Forefront as a community. We plan on supporting Ocean Protocol in as many different ways as possible.
Ocean Community/Ecosystem:
Terminal, as a concept, aligns with the values of Ocean. It's about democratizing data and making it accessible to everyone (emphasis on transparency as well). As we build out this Terminal, we will gather feedback from the community to continue to enhance it so it serves the community. We will search for the information that provides the most value to core members and the community alike, making it a backbone for effective decision making moving forward.
