Sentiment analysis for datasets

1 - PROPOSAL

Proposal in one sentence:

Online sentiment analysis for ocean market datasets.

Project Description:

The tool will provide pricing signals for datasets by measuring their
popularity on social media in tech circles.

It will analyse trends in conversations about data, evaluate the level of chatter.
It will help data asset investors and owners assess future interest for their data tokens.

What Problem Is Your Project Solving

The aim is to increase engagement with Ocean Protocol by surfacing potentially profitable opportunities for market participants.

Today people who are not data scientists (or familiar with a particular industry) but are interested in investing in data assets have very limited signals for accessing the potential market value of a particular data asset.
They have no intuitive basis to form an opinion on the value of a particular dataset.

With this tool, it will be easier to invest on a datatoken by comparing its price history to the level of discussion about similar data online.
If for example a category of data is getting more attention online and its price doesn’t move on Ocean market. One can make the assumption that the demand is mispriced and invest accordingly (creating arbitrage opportunities for datasets).

The tool would be particularly targeted at people who are not data scientists themselves but want to provide liquidity out of an interest for speculation.

It can also help the price setting process for data token providers. When publishing your data asset on Ocean Market, you can check the sentiment tool to compare it with the sentiment of other datasets, aiding with the price discovery process.

Grant Deliverables

  • A taxonomy (classification) built from online conversations that will help to add tags to ocean datasets using their descriptions in the marketplace.
  • A tool that will present a form and suggest relevant tags out of the description of a dataset.
  • Top trends in conversations about data from one online data source.

How Does The Project Drive Value For Ocean Protocol

  • It will improve the user experience for buying and selling data tokens.
  • It will make it easier for data providers to set their initial price by allowing them to better position their datasets relative to the market sentiment.

Which category best describes your project?

Outreach / Community

What is the final product?

The final product will be a dashboard. With a series of widgets that monitor online interest in each dataset with the possibility to drill down into finer details. (and could be integrated with Rugpullindex for example).

Which one or more of the criteria will your project focus on?

Adding value to the overall community:

It will provide a more clear path to profit to people outside the Ocean Protocol ecosystem looking to invest in data tokens.
It will allow investors the opportunity to profit from the arbitrage between the state of discussions on the web and their knowledge of datasets.

Having invested in a dataset token, they will become the best promoters of that dataset as they seek to close the gap between the current price and the price indicated by the sentiment analysis.

3 - PROPOSAL DETAILS

3.1 - Details of the proposal

We have seen that a healthy intermediate layer of active speculators within the Crypto and Web3 ecosystem helps to drive growth and adoption of a particular vertical (e.g. ICOs in 2017, DeFi Summer, NFT’s etc).

The Web3 Data Economy is likely going to need the same type of attention to activate.

Data farming is a great solution and we believe that arming speculators with more tools to highlight arbitrage opportunities within the emerging Web3 Data Economy will have a big impact on helping to drive adoption of the data economy among Web3 circles.

Our proposal is the first in a serie of steps that aim to draw the attention of those speculators to the market for datasets.

3.3 - In in Category “Outreach / Community ”:

The widgets displaying sentiment analysis on a dataset will be initially displayed here: https://datapeek.org/static/dataset-interest/index.html

and the tool to suggest tag based on dataset description will be published here:
https://datapeek.org/static/dataset-tagging/index.html

Then It will be progressively moved to the front page as we gather more insights about usage.

3.9 - Project Deliverables - Roadmap

The first phase is to provide tools for dataset publishers to better understand positioning for their dataset, which will be the main focus of the current grant.

The second phase will be more focused around the detection of relevant trends
in online conversations that help inform datatoken investors decisions

Congratulations on finishing the proposal. I have been working with @kemur in the background discussing this project (and some others) and am very interested in how this project could drive adoption within crypto circles looking for data asset ‘arbitrage’ opportunities (i.e. hunting out cheap data assets). I have also provided my wallet address to vouch for/qualify this proposal for the round (I think we did this part right…)

Hi @kemur,

Thank you for applying for R-13!

Your proposal has been registered into the system and everything looks great!

We have attempted to make your first grant easy to earn (you are registered in the New Entrant Earmark) I would also recommend one (or all) of the following to increase support:

  1. Saying hi to the community in #ocean-dao and sharing your proposal.

  2. Saying hi to members of the #project-guiding WG and sharing your proposal.

  3. Meet with the Evaluators assigned to you by the #project-guiding WG.

  4. Attend a Town Hall or Project-Guiding WG meeting to talk about your project and proposal.

If you need any additional support please let me know

All the best!

Hello @kemur,

Please notice that we are updating the funding process for R13 and there are important things for you to know. We will be deploying an update to the Ocean Website, where you will be able to claim your grant on your own time.
Funding the smart contract may take ~2 days after Voting Ends. There will still be a funding deadline of 2 weeks to claim your grant.
You will need a web3 wallet + Airtable to complete the process. Grant requests via request.finance will be deprecated.

You can find all instructions here: https://github.com/oceanprotocol/oceandao/wiki/Request-Grant-Guidelines
You will have until January 10th to update your proposal with all required fields.

Please let us know if you experience any issues or bugs. You can also submit tickets to Github and ping us inside of ocean-dao-engineering for any help. Thank you!
