Grant Proposal
Part 1 - Proposal Submission
Name of Project:
OurNet
Proposal in one sentence:
The construction of a global, crowdsourced data-bank of locality based organisations and administrations to enable and empower individuals to access and utilise local facilities, giving rise to stronger community involvement and influence.
Description of the project and what problem is it solving:
To create a crowd-sourced database using crowd verification techniques, to construct a list of organisations, authorities and other entities to enable people to make contact and engage with, and thus influence, those organisations.
This project is a side shoot from our project – www.ournet.news – which is a community publishing and communication platform designed to enhance and empower local communities, in a world that has become substantially globe-centric. The weakening of local communities is arguably due to the centralisation of media which focuses on global issues, leaving our populations overwhelmed with issues over which they can have little influence.
OurNet uses a mixture of locality based, user supplied information and publication, local chat areas and an event publishing system to allow people to share opinions, meet and exchange and request from each other, and publicise events they are setting up. OurNet also allows the creation of membership communities, interest and/or locality based, to encourage collaboration and innovation. It is designed to move people´s focus to areas where they can make a difference – encouraging local publishing, local connection and local collaboration. This will significantly impact issues such as isolation, lack of meaning and loneliness as people start being connected in their locality.
This proposal for a crowd sourced database will allow the development on a global level of an extensive directory of local resources which are supplied by and validated by local people.
Grant Deliverables:
*** Grant Deliverable 1**
Creation of a system, embedded within www.ournet.news encouraging the harvesting and validation of local organisational data, including type, category, geo-location and area of service, and using that data to feed information to ournet.news
*** Grant Deliverable 2**
Making dataset available to locality users and encourage/promote expansion of data regions
Which category best describes your project? Pick one.
Unleash data
Which Fundamental Metric best describes your project? Pick one.
Total Value Locked
What is the final product?:
How does this project drive value to the “fundamental metric” (listed above) and the overall Ocean ecosystem? This is best expressed as Expected ROI, details here.
Data sets brought to OCEAN:
- A map a global local GIS of localities and geolocations.
- Locally curated lists of organisational data, including type, category, geo-location and area of service
The projects will bring data sets that can be used further by wider communities for various use cases thus increasing the Total Value Locked in the Ocean ecosystem. The investment seeked is $17,600 and more will be invested from our side to set up this architecture. We could bring GIS data to OCEAN and add multi-fold value to the ecosystem.
The global geographic information systems (GIS) market size is expected to grow from USD 8.1 billion in 2020 to USD 14.5 billion by 2025. I believe our collaboration could bring a major domain to the ecosystem for use.
Funding Requested: $17,600
