Proposal One Liner

Incentivize community engagement using physical and digital airdops.

Proposal Description

During phase one of project hightide we wanted to begin by creating a presence on

social media (mainly twitter). Originally, we planned on creating our own educational content,

but we feel that this area is well covered by some of our talented community members.

Occasional educational threads will still be posted by our team but in phase two we will

direct our focus towards boosting engagement around Ocean content creators, and

OceanDAO.

In our first phase we hosted education-based contests, and participants were

entered into raffles to win Ocean tokens. Our thought process was that our twitter

engagements (retweets, comments, and likes) would help spread the word of our contests,

resulting in more people learning about Ocean Protocol. Through this method we gave

away around 750 ocean tokens. However, we quickly learned that once a contest was over,

and the ocean tokens were distributed, that the online exposure stopped there. Our team

questioned how we can get the most bang for our buck with every ocean token spent?

With this question on our minds, we concluded that if we reward community

engagement with Ocean merchandise (t-shirts, hoodies, hats, stickers etc.), we can greatly

increase the advertisement potential long after a contest ends. By airdropping physical

items (ocean merchandise), as well as digital items (ocean NFTs) then we can cover

impressions and advertisement in both the universe and metaverse. In the meantime, we are

stockpiling Ocean merch so that we can ā€œairdropā€ multiple items at once to save on shipping

costs. Additionally, our first NFT project (DataSwarm) is in its final stages of development with

Dredbin, the creator of DopeWhalesNFT as our designer. To add some utility to this project, a

number of these NFTs will allow their holder to claim a physical ocean merch airdrop (further

details will be announced on our twitter).

Grant Deliverables

  • Grant Deliverable 1

  • Create a website to display Ocean merchandise that is in stock and available for purchase or allow individuals to place an order for desired items.

  • Grant Deliverable 2

  • Release our DataSwarm NFT project which will be 100 jellyfish characters, 50 of which will be airdropped to community members

  • Grant Deliverable 3

  • Complete a minimum of 25 physical ocean merchandise airdrops to community members.

  • Grant Deliverable 4

  • Boost traction around Ocean content creators using merchandise as an incentive.

  • Grant Deliverable 5

  • Monthly budget reports provided to the community, by our certified accountant.

Value Add Criteria

Project Hightide can add value to the Ocean ecosystem in several areas. By

focusing our incentives on the consumption of ocean content, we can serve as a content

facilitator and boost traction around those content creators. Ocean merch airdrops will be

used as our main incentive for engagement which will also provide marketing/advertisement

in the physical world. Since our community members live across the globe, we can use this

to our advantage. By introducing Ocean related merch and with the help of our diverse

community members, we can increase Ocean impressions everyday across the world.

We theorize that these efforts could lead to an increase in ocean market usage and

the publishing of datasets. Branding reinforcement is very important, and itā€™s our goal to

help Ocean work towards becoming a household name, so that more people understand

the value of their data. As we know, there is millions of terabytes of valuable data out there

but not everyone knows that there is currently a working market where data can be

published and sold.

The probability of success is reasonably high. Several Ocean related merch items

will be created by our team and be dispersed to community members as an airdrop or if

theyā€™re purchased. Unlike how twitter calculates the number of impressions each tweet has,

itā€™s unfortunately impossible to measure how many impressions one Ocean t-shirt can

make. However, if you imagine a community member wearing an Ocean t-shirt while

walking down Time Square, you can estimate the number of impressions to be quite high.

We have also had a very good response from the community since announcing our

commitment and focus on merch creation and distribution.

During phase 2 of Project Hightide our team will be more active in the OceanDAO

community. One member of our team will attend the weekly townhall meetings going

forward to discuss our progress. We will also be present in the Outreach Working Group in

the Ocean discord to bounce ideas off other DAO teams, and to plan how we can boost

traction around the OceanDAO ecosystem.

Hey there! Great idea!

The expansion from digital to physical ā€˜airdropsā€™ is a solid move. However, I think there are some details that could help clarify and refine the goals of this project.

  1. Iā€™m curious what some of the stats and KPIs from the first round were and the existing following/community that resulted from those efforts, can you please link them for me?

  2. How will community members that are most likely to rep the merch be selected? How many of the NFT holders will be allowed to claim physical merch? Similarly, will it be airdrop receivers, purchasers, or a mix?

  3. How will you measure success of boosting traction and impressions from physical merch?
