Grant Proposal Template
Part 1 - Proposal Submission (*Mandatory)
Name of Project:
Ocean SRE/QA Community (Podcast & Offline)
Proposal in one sentence:
The SRE/QA community will serve to secure, debug, and improve the software development life cycle and the systems behind all of Ocean Protocol offerings.
Description of the project and what problem is it solving:
SRE is what is obtainable when you treat operations as though they were software problems.
We intend to build a community, an OCEAN SRE/QA Community, which is currently non-existent in the entire ecosystem. Having such a community working behind this project greatly increases the credibility of the project and reduces failure downtime. We found that lots of IPFS investors are from third and fourth-tier cities. They have lots of questions regarding Ocean Mining and IPFS technology.
Grant Deliverables
- Build an onboarding website for SRE community members with Smart algorithms that enable KYC and other screening protocols to ensure standards.
- Start building social media communities to expose the public to Ocean protocol mining and IPFS systems.
- Develop A course outline and Upload course session on Udemy and Youtube for Ocean Ecosystem and Use case.
- Planning and implementation of periodic meetings of the SRE community to enable collective development of the Ocean community.
- Build a telegram channel for posting regular updates about the Ocean SRE/QA community and the entire Ocean ecosystem.
Which Project Category best describes your project?
- Outreach / community / spread awareness
Are you applying for an Earmark?
- New Project Outreach / community / spread awareness
What is the final product?
The Ocean SRE / QA community is a community of Site Reliability Engineers and Quality Assurance Engineers committed to debugging and seeing that OCEAN protocol deploys standard software and before attacks happen, they will run community bounty to detect and debug. Although, the project is global in nature and the goal is to reach out to every SRE/QA contributor. We would be starting from Kenya (According to a report by Google dubbed e-Conomy 2020, Kenya is amongst the top 5 African countries with the most software developers - 60,000 software developers)and Africa which is a home to over 690,000 engineers and this is growing daily) and then gradually scaling up. The final project will feature a community discord, slack and telegram. Slack for technical communications within the SRE leadership team, Discord for general communications within the Ocean SRE /QA community and Telegram for general announcements.
Question on “value add” criteria: which one or more of the criteria will the project focus on? Why do you believe your team will do well on those criteria?
The SRE/QA community is a team of Site Reliability Engineers and Quality Assurance personnel that are vested in the ocean ecosystem. They serve a purpose to further the interest of the entire ecosystem. They serve to provide technical support, reduce downtime, and launch protocols that will benefit or further the ecosystem. This project intends to build a podcast for the community, host events and other engaging activities to guide/persuade this invaluable team. The team gets the SRE experiences from traditional operations and introduces this into the Ocean Ecosystem and satisfies the DevOps pillars as follows.
- Reduce Organisation Silos - The community shares ownership with developers to create shared responsibility. SREs utilise the same tools with the devs and vice versa.
- SREs embrace risk, accept failure, quantify failures using Service Level Indicators and Service Levels Objectives.
- Implements graduate changes and improvements.
- Guide the growth of the ecosystem by utilising tools such as KPIs, hosting big and relatively influential and successful people in the space to drive growth.
- Encourages devs and product owners to move quickly by reducing the cost of failure
- Build a discipline that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to Ocean infrastructure and operations problems.
- Incubate the community to create scalable and highly reliable Ocean mining systems.

*Part 3 - Proposal Details (Recommended)
3.1 Details
Details of the proposal:
This is a community project for the SRE/QA engineers. Its importance to the Ocean community is as a result of the enormous advantages that SRE/QA has provided to software development in general and ther impact of lack of it to so many tech companies and blockchain projects to be specific. We propose to build a community of SREs & QA’s that will be vested and coordinated with the overall aim of providing technical insight/support to the ecosystem. We will achieve this by using several channels including twitter, telegram, discord, slack and importantly other offline channels to have coordinated meetings that will lead to building the community.
- We intend to publicise to the blockchain community of the advantages that are inherent in being in the Ocean Ecosystem
- We intend to enrol/onboard SREs to the community.
- Then we have periodical meetings to give vision and goals to the community.
- The large community will exist as a backbone, support system of the entire ocean ecosystem.
3.2 If in Category “Build / improve applications or integration to Ocean”:
App will be live at:
Nil
Is the software open-source?
No
3.3 If in Category “Outreach / community”:
- 2 technical blog posts will be published monthly on medium and retargeted across the different community channels.
- One podcast will be published by a thought leader in the space and hosted on Spotify or any approved platform.
- 1 video production will be published on Youtube every month and other interesting materials reshared.
3.4 If the project includes software:
Are there any mockups or designs to date? If yes, please share details / links.
No. At the moment, we are prioritising Social media and our community and community forums will majorly be offline as we aim to do a lot outreaches and be present at meetups, for coordination and communication of their community, we will be deploying on productivity tools like Slack and Discord. Hence, we don’t have a strong need to build robust websites and products for this project.
Please give an overview of the technology stack
Not applicable for the project.
3.5 If the project includes community engagement:
Which channels will be used? For how long? E.g. “twitter, for 8 weeks”. Other details?
We intend to keep the community engaged through

The SRE community will have a dedicated page where Newsletters and articles will be posted at least once a month.
- Youtube
A dedicated YouTube page that will be dedicated to familiarising viewers with navigating the community and other FAQs
- Slack
