Proposal One Liner

Project School of Fish covers the implementation of a referral system with the aim to significantly increase sign-ups for Ocean Academy as well as traction for the broader Ocean Ecosystem.

Proposal Description

Since it was launched in Q4 2020, Ocean Academy has been instrumental in driving visibility and onboarding newcomers to the Ocean ecosystem.

Here are some of the numbers that go up thanks to Ocean Academy (status on March 31, 2022):

- Twitter performance:

- Tweets: 325

- Impressions: 1,576,479 [earned: 605,927]

- Engagements: 25,530 [earned: 18,589]

- Engagement rate: 1.62% [earned: 3.07%]

- Academy content & conversions:

- Academy visitors (new): 46,992

- Enrolled: 9,327

- Certificates delivered: 5,195

- Ocean101: 4,581

- Intro to Data DeFi: 594

- Intro to CtD: 20

- Onboarding:

- Ambassador interest form completes: 243

- New contributors (through ambassador onboarding): 54

Ocean Academy needs to keep innovating to remain relevant and attractive over time. Paid communication does not have the best ROI due to lower engagement rates, so more endogenous approaches to growth are now considered.

One of the most effective ways to build a community across verticals is through referrals. Web3 is no different, with successful implementations in the education space (https://near.academy for example).

So, with this project, we plan to implement an incentivized referral program in which graduates can earn rewards by inviting friends to complete Ocean 101. The Implementation should incentivize qualified sign-ups, that is new users who successfully complete Ocean 101, not just any new sign-up.

Grant Deliverables

The final product is a state of the art referral system for Ocean 101, which effectively drives qualified new participants into the Ocean ecosystem.

The implementation foreseen involves the following:

* Referral section in the personal page of Ocean Academy members

* The full technical stack to deliver rewards to qualified participants

* One or more mechanism(s) to limit abuses

* A dedicated fund of 5,000 $OCEAN to be given away in the form of referral rewards

* Promotion of the referral program:

* Call to action at the end of the course

* Explainer paragraph in course description + landing page

* Awareness campaign on social media (Twitter, Medium, LinkedIn)

The deadline for completion is set to June 30, 2022, but may be revised if needed.

In addition, the grant requested will cover the following:

* Operating expenditures ($200/month)

* Communication support (est. at $400/month) for a period of 6 months

* Basic updates to content linked to V4 deployment, notably in Ocean 101. Significant changes linked to V4, for example to the Data DeFi and/or CtD modules may need to be funded separately (tbc)

Value Add Criteria

The referral program is expected to add value to Ocean Protocol on several aspects:

* Usage of Ocean: by onboarding more people with a profile likely to be a fit with the ecosystem as they know Ocean 101 graduates, the referral program is going to drive usage of Ocean in the form of datatokens purchases, datatokens creation, or even staking

* Adding value to the community: through the recruitment of new Ocean Ambassadors, which is promoted upon completion of the *Ocean 101 course*, Ocean Academy can supply the group with more, and more active new ambassadors.
