Name of Project: DataTour
Proposal in one sentence:
A self-sustaining community where members can meet with global and local tourism service providers in the light of previous traveller’s experiences, make bookings with cryptocurrency and earn crypto money from both their reservations and valuable content sharing.
Description of the project and what problem is it solving:
- Although there are already companies like Airbnb that are making travelling easier for people and lots of hotels/hostels for people to stay during travels, there is still the problem of cost as they are not still as cheap as they should.
- Data injustice. Images and videos of the rented accommodations must be top-notch, high quality and appealing before the travellers can feel comfortable and want to stay there. While companies like Airbnb, hostels/hotels ensure taking good pictures and videos to display the accommodations, they are not maximizing the profits from this data. On the other hand, travellers when on vacation take lots of pictures and videos (data assets) which are mostly unused when indeed they have the data asset that can be monetized and help reduce their travel cost.
- Inadequate knowledge of the community / local environment by the travellers thereby putting the travellers at risk and also, not being able to learn how the community culture or practise the language, and enjoy the vacation as much as they can.
DataTour Project
Tour is a self-sustaining community where members can meet with global and local tourism service providers in the light of previous traveller’s experiences, make bookings with cryptocurrency and earn crypto money from both their reservations and valuable content sharing.
Tour as a property listing platform will allow property owners to list their properties/home for a short stay at a more affordable cost compared to Airbnb and the likes, while the travellers and host connect with each other to learn the community cultures and enjoy their vacation as much as they can.
Tour as a data service, will allow the quality pictures and videos of the properties, images and videos taken by travellers to be monetised, Users can also decide to transfer ownership of their data to another user getting rewarded in the process. This is an example of the ownership economy based on the economy creation capabilities of the Ocean Protocol.
Purchasing images and video assets is not a new ideal as companies like Shutterstock and the likes does that, the major problem with them is that the assets can be stolen or the digital version of the assets might not be the original, or that its provenance might not be verifiable. We plan to solve this problem through authentication protocols as well as identity blockchain capabilities.

App / Integration – technical.
What is the final product?:
Our final product will be a web-based www.datatour.app where you will be able to connect your meta-mask or web-based wallet and upload your property and travel assets (images and videos), add the right attribute and publish the data on marketplaces, sell the data and stake on different LPs monetize them fairly and transparently without worrying about the huge storage cost that is usually associated with such magnitude of data storage.
-
The App will live in the iOS and Google App Stores in line with our roadmap.
-
Data will be made available on the Ocean market.
Project submission criteria.
Usage of Ocean:
Assets (Pictures & Videos) will be published and made available on the Ocean market, while ocean algorithms will be used to determine asset prices.
Ocean Mission:
As this project tends to make travel data available for the general public, thereby people who need the data can access it by whatever the criteria set by the data publisher, which I believe goes in line with Ocean’s mission.
Community Active-ness:
Though I have spent roughly a month in the ocean space, I envision myself and my team is active within the community as we will be needing all the support we can get from the community to move the project forward.
Viability:
The global travel statistics have been affected by covid 19, and a lot of travels and physical meetings have been changed to virtual or online meetings. Tending towards the post pandemics, a study has shown that part of the effects of covid-19 on tourism include, people will appreciate staying closer to their home, people will seek quality over quantity, road trips will kick into high gear, travel advisors will become essential and planning trips will become joyful again, these points for us implies more data (from taking quality pictures and videos during road travels, community building efforts through travel advisories), and when traveling eventually get back to normal, even more data from property rentals. The viability of this project is more than 80% chance as this data will always be available, it is more of our intensive to enable as many users to use our platform which is our goal as the data is always available, and this will be an ROI > 1

So far, we’ve been able to:
- Being the only team member and with the fact that I am a blockchain and backend developer myself, the work done so far has been creating the API backend endpoint which the frontend developer, UI/UX, and mobile application developer will connect to when fully onboarded, below is the link to the API endpoint:
- What is the project roadmap? That is: what are key milestones, and the target date for each milestone.
Q1 2022:
- Complete the API endpoint for the product.
- Complete the Product design for the web and mobile application.
- Complete the development of the web application and release the MVP.
- Properly test the application and launch.
Q2 2022:
- Start and complete the mobile application (Android and iOs).
- Launch the first marketing campaign.
- Begin community building & social media.
- Connect to the ocean marketplace and add bid and sale functionalities.
Please include the milestone: publish an article/tutorial explaining your project as part of the grant (eg medium, etc).

Foreseen or possible additions?
DEFI: The goal is to eliminate the expensive costs of international high-volume money transfers and the swift transaction complexity in tourism and travel transactions, which are among one of the highest volume industries in the world economy. One of its main aims is to eliminate the complexity and difficulty arising from the use of local currency in the destination country serving as a tourism cryptocurrency that can be spent safely in every country of the world from its crypto money wallet, eliminating the need to carry cash or debit cards.
